The infantry
The infantry is traditionally the part of the army that fought on foot; unlike the cavalry which used horses. Until the First World War soldiers on horseback played a vital role, but after the Second World War this changed drastically. The army was now a motorized army.
The infantry combat training was tough and only the fittest men were assigned to the infantry. During the combat training much attention was paid to rifle shooting, throwing grenades, digging foxholes, hand-to-hand combat, and so on.
